Transportation of mortal remains

Reception and dispatch of the deceased remains at the Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport is realized through the goods terminal (cargo center) by the conditions and standards of the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Each air carrier prescribes in more detail and separately the conditions and restrictions for the deceased remains transport.

Documents required for delivery for transport or collection upon arrival of the deceased remains are as follows:
- passport of the deceased

- for taking into the country
* Consulate of the Republic of Serbia abroad
(If the remains are not accompanied by a permit, it is necessary to contact

- for taking out of the country
* permit of the destination country embassy consulate
- payment of transportation costs to the airline
- death certificate from the health institution

Transportation of remains

For the transportation of mortal remains from abroad to Serbia, it is necessary to obtain an appropriate
document of the Republic of Serbia - permit.
The request for the issuance of the permit is is submitted to the Embassy, i.e. the Consulate General

of the Republic of Serbia in the area of the last residence of the deceased.

To obtain the permit, you need to submit the following documents in the original:

1. passport of the deceased;
2. request from a relative or a funeral company authorized to transport the remains which states,
among other things, where the funeral will take place and which way the transport will be done;
3. death certificate issued by the competent authority of the receiving country;
4. doctor's report on the cause of death;
5. permit for transfer of the body abroad,
issued by the competent authority of the receiving country (e.g. "Leichenpass" in Germany and Austria);
6. certificate of grave site in the Republic of Serbia if it is a foreign citizen;
7. if the person died of plague or smallpox,
the permit is issued upon the consent of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Serbia.

The consent is obtained by the diplomatic and consular mission of the Republic of Serbia. If the person will be buried in a third country, but the transport of mortal remains remains is done through the territory of Serbia, it is necessary to obtain a a transit permit for the Republic of Serbia. All the above documents, as well as the permit of the country in which the person will be buried, are required for the issuance of the transit permit.

For the urn transfer to Serbia, it is also necessary to obtain a permit.
All the above documents and the cremation certificate are to be submitted.
